Cut Nose: Who Stands on a Cloud
Reviews:
"Dean Boutin, after exhaustive research and thoughtful analysis, has given us the definitive life story of a historical figure deeply human yet undeniably tragic. Rather than emulate his predecessors by presenting a distorted image of Cut Nose, who was once defined as a fiend in human shape, the author gives us fresh insights into the mind and heart of a great leader of his people. An objective, haunting, and honest history devoid of embellishment, yet rich in truth. This one stays with you."
– John Koblas, author of the three-volume Dakota Uprising history, Let Them Eat Grass
"I am in admiration with regard to your objectivity in dealing with a highly explosive subject matter, a culturally distinct person, Cut Nose. . . . I now have become convinced that it is time to reveal the times and actions of Cut Nose. Based on my experiences, I feel that any type of healing can only commence when disclosure of facts, such as they are, are revealed. I, therefore, encourage you . . ."
– Ed Red Owl, Sisseton, South Dakota, a direct descendant of Cut Nose
Cut Nose is "well documented" and "a very interesting book that should appeal to most readers."
– Bud Lawrence, one of three men who conceived and promoted the first powwow in Mankato
About the Author:
The author is a psychologist born in Minnesota and lived most of his life except for a three-year stint in the army during the Korean War and educational absences. His outrage over the grave robbery after the hanging of the thirty-eight stimulated the writing of this book.
